STUDIES ON AUTOIMMUNOLOGIC INJURY AND LIVER DAMAGE

Abstract
1) The author briefly discussed modern concepts of autoimmune disease and autoimmune process in liver disease. He also described his experimental studies on autoimmunologic injury and liver damage.
2) The author was successful in producing experimental liver damage in rabbits through long standing injection of anti-rabbit-liver duck serum(A-R-LDS) for 3-6months. The author used A-R-:L US which was produced by injection of 25% saline solution of emulsified liver with alum injected into the duck¢¥s abdominal cavity repeatedly. The duck titer of antisera was elevated to 160-32Ox. Initial injection of rabbits consisted of 2 cc./kg. of duck serum i. v. daily for 3 days. In acute study group recieved another injection(challenging) 2 weeks later. The chronic study group recieved injection every 10 days for 6months after initial injection.
3) The author found significant pathological changes through the above mentioned autoirnmunolosic methods, e.g. peripheral or focal parenchyma 1 degeneration(albumirous , rarefication, ballooning & fatty), necrosis (peripheral or focal), reticulum proliferation, activation of kupffer cell, fibrosis & pseudolobule formation. One rabbit had elevation of serum-r-globulin and developed antihepatic antibodyes and also shows low concentration with radiogold scan.
4) The above mentioned studies suggest to us that there is a close relationship between autoimmune injuries and liver damage and may be significant in the explanation of chronicity of liver disease in both the auto destructive process of chronicactive hepatitis and possibly cirrhotic changes.
